Bienvenidos a Nicaragua!

This is it, I have finally made it. After 2 weeks of packing, 2 days of staging in D.C., and a 3 am wakeup for a plane flight, I am finally here in Managua, Nicaragua. Flying in we could see the rivers and volcanoes that dot the landscape, and I felt truly transported to someplace magical. The country is lush and beautiful, at the end of its rainy season - and the people could not be nicer.

The other volunteers are amazing, and incredibly acomplished, passionate, and friendly. My father said to me as he dropped me off that the other volunteers around the hotel, "looked exactly like" me - and indeed they are. Everyone is creative, and idealistic while stile pragmatic. We are young and old, married and single, music majors and horticulture majors, and I love them all.

Pre-service Training began today, and after our rabies shots tomorrow (and other various vaccinations) we will learn more about our individual projects. On saturday we break into 2 groups of 20 and the Agriculture group heads for the north, and the Environmental Ed teachers to the south. Its really begun, we are actually here, and I am actually going to do something productive and beneficial to others with my life. Its a good feeling at the moment. I hope that lasts through the spanish assement and vaccinations tomorrow. :)

Hasta Luego!
